- 2x Vending Machine Vector Test Pieces – Complete
- 2x Drone Vector Test Pieces – Complete
This is the start of my test pieces which I will be using to help me make the best possible end product I can, by creating these test pieces it also gives me an insight in to how my pieces will look and can help me spot any flaws that might occur.
Vending Machines
Vending Machine #1
In the first image we can see the very beginning of my first vector test piece and it is just the main body of the design however over the next few images we will see it take shape and turn into a vending machine. Creating a Vector design is quite easy as you can select which shape you’d like to use and then just start creating your designs. In the second image I have now added the main glass screen to the front of the design, this would then allow people to see what products are available. To create the glass screen I selected the rounded edge rectangle and also changed the colour to a dark grey, this is so I’d be able to see the shape I was adding in. The change that has occurred in third image is the shelving that I have added. This was quite simple to do but also required me to create a few extra layers to ensure it all went smoothly. I started off by creating one rectangle and then duplicating it 5 times, this was to ensure each one was the exact same. I then selected all of these layers and then used the align tool which made sure the gaps between each rectangle was the same this would then make the shelving look more realistic as it was correctly aligned.
In this second set of images we can see the progress that I made on the vending machine, this set is mainly focused on the control panel on the right hand side which I felt was necessary to include. In the first picture I have added a bright blue line next to the glass screen, this was to show where the control panel side was going to be. I chose light blue as the colour as when I make the end product this will be changed to a neon blue to be more accurate to the theme. I feel that by using a blue line it splits the design up a little bit which is good as it gives people more to look at. In the second image I have now added the number-pad to my design, I used a light grey colour for this as it shows up clearly and I also added an outline to it which will also help make it stand out, when I make the final design I will be adding more detail to the number-pad to make it look more realistic. For the third picture I have added an extra glass screen which will be used to show the numbers that you are typing in, I wanted to add this in as I felt it would be more realistic and look better, for my final design I could also add in a set of numbers to make it seem as if something has been ordered.
The fourth screenshot shows the coin slot I had just added in, this required a few different layers as I needed to add in multiple shapes, I added a square, a circle and a rectangle with rounded edges, this rectangle was then used for the coin slot. I also used different colours for these shapes as I wanted to make each part stand out, to make this stand out even more in my final design I can add some scratch marks to it by using some different brush settings, I feel like this would enhance the overall design. In the fifth image I have added the note slot to the control panel side and have also added the feet to the very bottom of the vending machine. To add the note slot to the vending machine I added two rectangles, I made one thinner than the other as this would act as the full on slot and the larger one would act as the back panel of the slot. The feet were added at this stage because I had forgot to add them sooner, in my final product I will be adding the feet in at an earlier stage as they will improve the entire look of the design just by being there.
In these final two pictures we can see the end result of my vending machine and how it turned out. I like the look of the vending machine at the end and feel it is quite good. In the first picture the vending machine is nearly complete as I have just added the change box to it, this is located just below the note slot and I feel this is a good position for it as it seems more realistic, I also added a stroke to the layer as I wanted a nice outline running along the edges of the box, I’m going to make this stroke slimmer in my final design as I feel it will look better and I will also make the colour a little bit lighter to make it blend in a bit more. In the second picture we can see the finished design and the last asset that I added to it to make it complete.
I firstly made a layer, then added the rectangle to make the push box, after creating this box I then adjusted the colour to a lighter grey as I felt it was too dark before, after adjusting the colour I then added a stroke as I like this technique and believe it helps to make each part stand out a bit more against the red background. After that I then made a text box and added the word push, following this I then changed the text style as I wanted to make it look unique. Overall I like this design however in my final design I may change the colours a bit to make it a little bit easier to look at as I feel the red background is a bit bland and could be changed easily by making it a bit darker.
Vending Machine #2
In this set of images we can see the steps I took to make my second vending machine from scratch all the way to the end product. I started by creating a layer and then labelling it vending machine body as I felt this was an appropriate name for it, then I followed this up by creating a rectangle with round edges as I like this effect and feel like if I used a regular rectangle it would look too blocky. After creating the main body of the vending machine I then changed the colour to red as I like this colour for the vending machine the most, however in my final product I will be creating a blue and a red one so I will be testing out different blues when I create my final design as I want to make sure I get the blue right.
In the second picture I have now added in the glass screen as I felt it was essential to add this in early as it really helps make the design look better, I made another rectangle with round edges and then made it a mid grey colour, I didn’t want it to be too dark or too light as I still had to add the shelving and that was going to be a light grey colour. After creating the rectangle and changing the colour I then added a stroke to the layer, this was to make it stand out even more against the main body of the vending machine.
In the third screenshot I have added the feet of the vending machine into my design, I wanted to add them in at this point as I felt like they improved the design a lot. To make the feet it took a bit of experimenting as I didn’t want to make them too big or too small as they needed to be accurate with the design, after getting the right size I then had to place them in the correct place as I wanted them to be identical on either side of the vending machine. After placing them correctly I then wanted to change the colour of them, I chose a light grey as I felt like this colour works well with the design and fits in well with the red vending machine colour.
This is my second set of progress screenshots that I have taken to show how my product has evolved, in the first picture we see I have now added the shelving to my vending machine, I created a vector rectangle and changed the colour to a lighter grey so it wouldn’t get messed up with the glass layer, I then made duplicates of this rectangle, combined them into one layer and then aligned them so they were all the same distance apart. Following this I then added a blue line down the right hand side as this was going to show where the control panel side would be, this will be updated to a brighter shade of blue and I will put some glow around it as I feel it would look better. After adding the blue line which would separate the control panel side from the main body of the vending machine I then added in the number pad which would allow people to order a snack or drink from the machine, I placed it just higher than the middle of the design as I felt this was a good area for it, however I might make it a lighter shade of grey in my final design as I feel this might look better.
In the fourth picture we can see I have now added a little glass screen to the design, this will be used to show the numbers you are typing in, this will make it easier to be used. I got a very light shade of blue for this glass screen as I wanted to make it look realistic which I feel I have achieved however I might change the colour a little bit to make it blend in better, however I will be creating a blue vending machine as well so it could work better in this shade of blue with the blue vending machine. Following on from this I have now added the coin slot to the design, the design used 3 different vector shapes, the first was a square and I made this black as I felt this would look good and help make the next 2 shapes show up better. After creating the square I then created a circle and made this a grey colour, I did this as I knew the grey would look good on top of the black and it would still allow some of the black to be seen, finally I created a rounded edge rectangle, I made this one black as well as I wanted to make it look like a hole that would consume coins and I also wanted it to show up on the grey circle. After combining these 3 objects together and then merging the layers I placed it just below the number-pad, as I felt this seemed like a logical place to have it and also looked better as I tried it in a few different spots before deciding.
Finally in the last picture I have included the note slot, this required 2 vector shapes to be created, they were both rectangles but were different sizes so I had to think carefully when creating them as I didn’t want them to be too big or too small. I started off by creating the back one first which I wanted to be the bigger one since it was going to have the actual note slot on it. After I had created this one I then made the second one which was a black one as I wanted this to look like a hole as well, I made this one smaller as I wanted my design to look really good and I feel that by creating the note slot and coin slot like this has made it really good. Finally I put these 2 shapes on top of each other and then merged the layers, this then made it a whole lot easier to keep track of my design and where each part was.
Here is the final images of my product, one before the push box and one after which showcases the full design. In the first image I have added the change box to the design which I felt was necessary to include since I had already added a coin slot and a note slot, so it was obvious that the machine would accept coins and would therefore give change. Creating the change box was quite simple as it only required one vector shapes, since it only required one shape I wanted to make it look better so I added a stroke to the shape, I started off by creating a box, this was done by selecting the rectangle shape and then creating it with specific measurements so it would be a square. I then made it grey as I liked this colour and felt like it worked well with the design, after changing the colour to grey I then made sure the layer was selected and clicked the fx button on the bottom panel, this then allowed me to see the various items that I could use to change the object to make it look better. I wanted to add a stroke as this adds a nice outline around the entire object and I can decide how thick or how thin it is and also if it’s on the outside of the object which makes the object larger or if it’s on the inside which makes the object seem smaller. I decided to add the stroke to the outside of the object as this looks better in my opinion and also helps to make the grey stand out against the red background of the vending machine.
In the last picture we can see the completed design of my vending machine which showcases everything I have added to it right from the very start. In this image I have now added the push box which allows the consumer to collect their beverage or snack. To create the push box including the writing I had to use a vector shape, along with a stroke and the text box and changing the text style to suit my design. To start off I created a fairly large rectangle which would cover up the empty space at the bottom of the vending machine, I had left this space on purpose for the push box, following this I then changed the colour to a fairly dark grey as I felt this fitted the design well, I then added a stroke to this layer and placed it on the outside as I felt this looked better rather than the stroke being on the inside. After adding the stroke I then got a text box and wrote the word push, this is because normally on vending machines the boxes say push so I thought I would make it seem normal. I then changed the text style from times new roman to a font that I felt looked good and actually worked with the design. After that the design was finished, when making this into my final design I will add some glow to the blue line down the side as this will make it look a lot better and I will also add some scratch marks to it to show that it is quite old and worn, I feel that by adding these extra details it will make the design look superior to this one.
Drone #1
Throughout these sets of images I will be explaining and showing you how I made my drone from start to finish. The reference that I used for this drone was my own drawing as I felt it looked good and showed a good amount of detail that I would be able to bring forward to this design.
I started off by creating a layer which I then labelled main drone body, this was because I was going to start the design on this layer and therefore wanted it to be clearly labelled instead of the vector shape creating its own layer. To create the shape I clicked on the vector shape tab and then selected ellipse which would then allow me to create a circle, I made sure that the height and width were the same size as I felt this would look good. Following this I then got the colour from my colour design and applied it to the circle, I did this as I really liked the shade of grey that I had used in my colour designs and I feel it fits in really well with the design.
After I had selected the colour I then moved on to making the lines which were part of the design of the drone, I made these one at a time, I started off by creating a rounded rectangle and making sure the size of it would cover the drone, I was able to do this by creating a new layer and then creating the shapes and measuring it over the drone, this would then ensure that the rectangle would be big enough. After I had created the first one I then created a second one which went down one of the sides and I made sure that one was long enough as well, after creating the second one I then duplicated and flipped it as this made sure that they were both the same length. I then used the warp tool and added a bend to each of them which was incredibly helpful as this made them look more like my original design that I had come up with. Following the warp I then added a stroke to each of the lines, I made the stroke size about 8 as I felt this wasn’t too big and wasn’t going to ruin the design.
I then added the light blue section to the right hand side of the drone, this was going to have some electrical wires showing as this part of the drone is floating next to it. I selected the ellipse shape and then created a half circle which I then added on to the drone, this was not done though as I then had to use the warp tool to make sure that the shape was correct, the main thing that I did with the warp was change the sides of the object nearest the edge of the drone as these were not fully covering the drone therefore allowing some of the grey of the drone to be seen.
In this set of images I have started to further develop my drone and as such I have added some modifications to it. In the first images I have added a security camera to the main body of the drone, this can also act like an eye and also go invisible if needed as this is a security drone and will have multiple ways to view areas. To create this camera I started off with an ellipse, I made this a dark grey colour so that way it stands out against the lighter grey of the drones body, I then moved on to create the red dot in the middle, this was another ellipse that I made a dark red, this was to help make it stand out even more, I then added an outer glow to it as I feel this makes it look more like a security camera because a lot of them will have a red glow around the main central part.
Following the security camera I then added some floating components around the drone, I started off by adding 1 large one right below and 2 that are set back behind the drone as that’s where they are located. To make these I simply used ellipses as they were the best vector shape for me to utilize for this, after making one of the smaller ones I then duplicated the shape, and lined it up with the first one and then moved it across so that they were aligned properly, following them being aligned properly I then merged the two layers together as this would then allow me to keep track of them easier and I knew I also wouldn’t need to change the shapes. In the third image we can see that I’ve added some more floating components this time to either side of the drone, I wanted to add one to the right hand side as this is the circuit board and I wanted to make it visible as it will improve the overall design of my drone, I then added one to the left hand side because it will be located on the back hand side of the drone and therefore I will not need to add another circuit board to the drone and it also matches up and looks better this way.
This is the third set of images and this is leading up to the end of my drone design. In the first picture we can see that I’ve added 2 pentagon vector shapes to the top of my design, I have placed them here as this felt like a good place to have them and I felt it worked well with the rest of the design. Moving on to the second picture I have now added the second camera that my drone will have, this camera will be able to retract into the drone but also has a 360 degree viewing angle so it can always look behind itself and keep watch for whatever it is guarding. To make this camera I used a rectangle vector shape, a pentagon shape and 2 ellipses shapes, by using all of these I was able to combine them and make one security camera. Finally in the third image I have now added the branding to my product, this is to make it look better but also shows off the company that made it, I feel like putting it in the middle was a good idea, however I might move it and make it a little bit smaller as looking back on it now it can seem a bit big and take up the majority of the front design.

This is the picture of my finished drone, in this picture I have now added a shadow to the bottom of it, this to show where the light is coming from and also makes the design seem a lot more realistic and improves it a lot as it now gives it more character. To make this shading I simply used a couple of ellipse shapes as they were the way I created the drone and I figured they would also work for the shading. I used a dark grey for the shade as I felt like black would be too dark, and I couldn’t use too light of a grey either otherwise it might confuse people as to whether it’s a part of the drone or not, I added 2 ellipse shapes to the side as this can make the shade seem more accurate.
Drone #2
In these next few sets of screenshots that I have posted I will be talking you through the process of how I created this drone and why I modeled it the way I did. In the first image I have started off with a vector rectangle, I then used the warp tool to allow me to make the sides curvy. I wanted to make the drone have this body as I felt it looked good and was a nice variation than the other drone I made, the colour for this drone was the same colour I used for my original drawing, I wanted to use the same colour as I feel it works well with the design and looks good. Moving on to the second image we can see I have now added the legs onto the design, I made the legs by creating a rectangle and then using the warp tool again to make them look slightly bent. After I made one look I duplicated it and then flipped it, this was because trying to create two the exact same size would’ve been difficult, by doing this it cuts down some time and makes it easier for me.
In the third picture we can now see that I have added the head along with a security camera that looks like an eye. I created a polygon vector shape and changed the sides to seven as this made the head look better, obviously a round head would’ve looked better but I feel that by using a polygon it makes the drone look unique. To create the camera I used an ellipse shape and scaled it to make sure it would fit in the head but also to make sure it wasn’t too big, I then got a darker red colour than what I’d normally use and applied that to it, following that I then added a stroke to the camera as this gives it a nice outline.
In the first screenshot we can see I have now added the arms onto the drone, as well as being arms they also fuction as a way for the drone to move off the ground if needed as they have propellers which I added in later to the design. To make the arms I started with a rectangle and used the warp tool to allow me to change the shape so it would fit in with the body and blend in well. After making the arms I then moved on to adding some more colour to the design as I wanted to make it a bit brighter as I felt just using the grey was making the design look a bit dull, to change this I then added 5 lines to the design. I started with the 2 green lines which were quite easy to make as they were just a rectangle which I then applied a green colour to, I then duplicated the rectangle and changed it’s rotation so it looked exactly the same on the other side, after this I then made the 3 blue lines, this was just 3 rectangles, but I started with on and then duplicated this one twice and rearranged them to make a nice little design, I also set them up this way as I had another idea in mind which would require the branding I was going to add in.
As well as adding in the 5 lines I also added the wheels into the design, I used the ellipse tool and made a small circle which would act as the wheel, I added a stroke to this design and then changed the colour to brown to make it seem as if the wheel was rusty, this was only the beginning design and I was going to try a different type of wheel for the final design as I felt I would be able to make it better. Following the lines and the wheels that I had added in I then had to add in the second secuirty camera which would be placed on top of the drones head, as well as being able to have a 360 viewing angle it was also retractable so would be able to hide if needed. I made the security camera by using a rectangle vector shape to make the main support for it and then I used a polygon vector shape and changed the sides of it to 8 as this made it look good in my opinion. I then made an ellipse shape and wanted to take up most of the space inside the polygon since it wasn’t going to be used for anything else, I applied the same dark red colour to it as I did with the other security camera and then finally added a stroke to finish the camera off.
These are the final 2 pictures of the second drone that I made, in the first picture we can see that I have now added the propellers onto the arms of the drone, I made the propellers by creating an ellipse shape and making it quite small as I wanted to add a few propellers to each side to make it seem like there was more power to each side. After I made one of the ellipses I then duplicated it erach time, this was to snure the size of the propellers were exactly thre same as this was very important as I didn’t want one to be bigger than the other. Finally we move onto the last picture, in this picture we can see that I have now finished off the second drone design, I have now added the branding to the design and have also added a bright yellow colour to the middle of the design and this was because I wanted it to help make the branding stand out. I added the yellow colour by adding a rectangle to the drone and adjusting the size of it to fit in ther space exactly, I then changed the colour of it to yellow as I knew this colour would work well with red and would allow the red to show up really well.
Current Position
- What did I do and why did I do it? This week I focused on making some of the test pieces of my final products, I created 2 vending machines and 2 drones, I did this as I was going to be making 2 sets of designs each week in the build up to my final product design weeks.
- What did I find difficult or easy? The most difficult task for me was creating the second drone, this was because the vector shapes I needed to use for it weren’t exactly standard as I had to use warp a few times to be able to make the shapes work. I’d say the vending machines were the easiest for me to create because the shapes for them were easier to create and I enjoyed creating them more.
- What tasks didn’t I complete from this week? I managed to complete all of my tasks from this week and therefore will not need to catch up next week.
- How do I plan to catch up? N/A
- Do I need to change anything about my work or planning? N/A

Tasks
- 2x Billboard Vector Test Pieces – Complete
- 2x Factory Vector Test Pieces – Complete
Billboard #1
In these images I will be taking you through the stages of how I created my billboard, and what I did to make it look good. To start off with I decided I would create the main back of the billboard, this was quite simple to do and it only required me to create one vector rectangle, I decided to use the round edged rectangle as this looked better and I felt it would help the design out later on. I chose a nice dark grey for this as I felt a lighter colour would of been too light, I could’ve used black but I would rather use a different colour as I feel black makes everything seem a bit too dark, I mainly chose a dark grey as I knew I’d be using a set of brighter colours for the main design on the billboard.
After I had created the main backboard I then went on to create the next part of the billboard which was the main part where the advertisement would be placed. For this part of the billboard I used another round-edged rectangle and paired it with a nice bright blue colour, this was to make it stand out from the back of the billboard and it would also help make the ad stand out when I placed it on the billboard. After this I then had to make the support for the billboard, I decided I was going to make a rail support as this seemed like a good idea and I felt I would be able to create a realistic look rail that would also help make the billboard look good. For the rail I used yet another round-edged rectangle for the main bar and then made some smaller ones which would come out from the bottom of the rail and hold on to the billboard. I used a lighter grey colour for the rail support, I had to make it lighter than the main back of the billboard otherwise they might have blended together, I wanted to make it a lighter colour so they are separate items and don’t get confused as one.
In these 2 images we can see the final images of my first billboard design, in the first image I have now added my vending machine to the design, I added the vending machine because it was my favourite design and I feel like it works well on the billboard, also I feel the red and blue work well together which helps make everything stand out. Also in the first image I have added shading, admittedly this could’ve been done as an extra screenshot but I figured it was better to include it in this image as it shows which direction the light is coming from. If I were to remake the shading I might use vector shapes instead as that worked well with the drone shading I did and I feel like it could work with this design as well.
In the final image we can see the finished image in which I have now included the branding. With the branding I used some vector rectangles and also a vector pentagon as this was my new brand logo that I invented and I feel it looks a lot better than the older one. I also used the same red as the vending machine as I feel its a good bright colour and shows up well on the blue background, along with the brand logo I also added the name of the brand. I might change some of the colours in this design to better match the mood of my factory which is a dull grey colour, however I could use some brighter colours and add some glow to them to make them stand out even more, for example if I add in a vending machine I could apply some outside glow to it which would then make it look even better.
Billboard #2
In these 3 images we can see some of the progress that I made from starting my billboard to just before the final result. In the first image I created a vector rectangle with rounded edges as this was going to be the backboard for the billboard, I used a rectangle with rounded edges as I feel it improves the visual aesthetics of the shape rather than just a regular rectangle as I feel the sharp edges don’t look good. In the second picture I then added the main part of the billboard, I made this a dark blue colour as I felt the light blue I used in my first design was a bit too bright, I feel that by making the blue darker it really helps to make the rest of the design stand out as I found out later on in my design. As well as adding the blue to the billboard I added a black stroke around the edge of the blue, I made the stroke a size of 8 as this would ensure it wasn’t too big or too small, the stroke would also help it stand out against the dark grey of the back of the billboard.
In the third screenshot I have now added some bolts to the design, these are the main support of the billboard, I decided to change the support design from a railing to bolts as I feel it gives the billboard and different feel to it, this way it makes the billboard seem as if it is screwed on to the side of a building. I used an ellipse vector shape to make the bolts and I used a light grey to give them a realistic look. Looking back at the bolts now I realise that I forgot to add one part of their design on to them which was the actual detail for the detail which would have been a cross design to make it look better.
In these final 2 pictures we can see the end result of my second billboard design. In the first picture we can see that I have now added my drone design to the billboard, I used this drone design as it is my preferred design and I feel it looks better than my other design that I made. If I were to remake this design with the same drone I would consider downsizing the drone a little bit as I feel it is too big as it’s touching the top and bottom of the billboard, I feel that by making it smaller it would also improve the overall design as it would fit in better.
Looking at the final picture we can see the end result of my design, in this picture I have now added the branding to the design which helps people identify the company that make the product. Since the branding is also on the drone I could potentially remove it off of the drone as I don’t think it needs to be on the billboard twice, however the branding on the drone is also very helpful as it makes the drone look better. Furthermore I have also added some shading to this design down the left hand side next to the branding, I would’ve added more shading below the drone but that already has shading so I didn’t need to add it. For the shading I selected the dark blue colour that was used as the main billboard colour, made it darker and turned the opacity down a bit so it looks even darker, I feel like this is a good way to add shading as it doesn’t take over the design with how dark it is and it also shows which direction the light is coming from which in this case is from the top, I could change this in the final design and off-set the shading below the drone and put it off at an angle so that way it looks like the light is coming in from the side.
Factory #1
In these sets of images I will be taking you through my design process of how I started my factory and how I got to the finished product. In the first picture we can see the basic outline of the factory, I decided to lay out this first as I feel that getting the main building and all the sectors of it set up first was the most important part to the design, for the main building I used a rectangle for the main portion of it and added more vector shapes as I felt needed, by doing this I managed to create a structure which looks like my Photoshop sketches which is what I was aiming for. I also used some rectangles to create straight lines down the design, we can see these when there is a dark line, I have added two of these to the design as this is when I felt they were necessary to add. For the colour design I used the same colour that I used in my Photoshop colour design and this is because I feel like the colours worked well with the design and they blended together very well.
In the second picture we can see some of the progression that I have made, in this image I have added the chimneys in the top right corner of the design and also added the doors in the bottom right corner, I added these here as I felt they were some of the quicker items that I would be able to add in and that would therefore give me more time to work on some of the more intense parts of the design later on. To create the chimneys I used a rectangle vector, added a stroke to it and then duplicated it, I created it in this way as I wanted both of the chimneys to be the same size as I feel they look better this way. Next up after the chimneys was the doors, to make the doors I made one rectangle and ensured it was roughly the size I wanted and then I added a stroke to it, after this I then duplicated it twice and moved them all next to each other to create the doors. After this organising was done I then coloured in the two sides as this would make the rectangles seem more like doors, I used a nice light blue for this as I felt it was an accurate colour for doors as it also looks like glass.
Moving on to the third picture we can see some more of the improvements that I have made to the factory design, in this picture I have now added the extractor fans to the top left of the design and a walkway to the top middle of the design. I added the extractor fans as I felt that they looked good in my sketches and that most buildings that are big like factories will have extractor fans built into them, I used a light grey colour for them as I wanted them to stand out against the main building and I also used a stroke on them to help them stand out even more. I also added a walkway to the top of this design as I felt it was a good idea and could be an area for guards to be roaming around on if they were ever needed, looking back on this design now I don’t like the walkway as it just doesn’t look right.
In these next 3 pictures we can see a bit more progress that I have made, in this image we can see that I have added a set of windows underneath the fans and a security camera and a light on either top corner of the design. Firstly I added the windows to the design, I started off by creating a rectangle vector shape, and added that into the design where it was required, I then added a stroke to it to ensure that it wouldn’t get lost in the design and then I applied the same bright blue colour that I had used with the doors on it to make it look better. After applying the blue colour I then created some more rectangles but made them quite thin as I didn’t want them to ruin the design, by making them thin it also allowed me to see how many I could apply to the window without ruining it and also I could see how many I could put across sideways to make the full window look. I also said I added the lamp and security camera in this step and to do this I created a small rectangle and rotated it to make it look right, for the security camera I placed it up high on the edge of the fan structure and then added an ellipse with a stroke around it that I gave a dark red colour as I felt like the red made it seem more ominous and I also liked where I placed the camera as I felt it was a good area for it, with the lamp I placed it just below the chimneys but rotated the rectangle to make it go upwards as I felt this would look better with the light that I was going to add to it, I used an ellipse, coloured it yellow and added a stroke.
In the second picture I have added the two garage doors to the design, these garage doors are intended to be used by the drones as a means to gain entry into the factory and to also exit for patrolling purposes. To make the garage doors I had to use a rectangle vector shape, and I measured the size of it by creating the shape inside the black box that I had made for the garage area, after getting the size right I then added a stroke the door, recoloured it to a light grey and then duplicated it. Following this I then rearranged them so they were both next to each other and then started to create the black lines on the doors, I created a rectangle and made it quite small as I didn’t want to make the line too big and I wanted to place multiple rectangles on the doors, after creating the lines for the doors I then made a small box at the bottom of the door which would be treated as the lock for the doors.
In the third picture we can now see that I have added some different coloured lines spanning across 2 different areas of the factory. Since my design is a factory I thought it would be a good idea to create some toxic waste pipes going around my design, during my initial ideas phase I made the pipes bend around the design however during this initial test piece period I tried to make the pipes bend around using the warp tool however it didn’t work well and I decided to just make the lines straight as this still looked alright. To create the toxic pipes I just created a rectangle and made sure it was the correct length as I needed it to fit correctly, I then added a stroke to the rectangle and then changed the colour to a dark green colour as I felt this was a good toxic colour to use, I then made the second rectangle and made this a brown colour as I also felt this was a good toxic colour to add in as well.
Here we can see the final 2 pictures of the my first factory test piece, in the first picture we can see that I have now added some bradning on to the factory, I decided to place it here as it was the only place that was large enough to have both the brand name and also the brand logo, the brand logo was just rectangle and one polygon vector shape, I used a bright red and added some stroke to the shapes as this looked better. To create the brand name I added some text, changed the size and alternated the style to OCRaSTD, this was because I really liked this text style and felt it looked good on the factroy. Moving on to the final picture we can see I have now added some extra words on to the design, this is to specify where everything will be located in the factory. I added 4 sets of words as they each describe what each part of the building is, I added sector 1, sector 2, sector 3, and garages, I feel that by adding these labels to the building it makes it better and allows people to clearly see what part of the building it is.
Factory #2
In these next set of images I will be showing you the progress on this second factory test piece I made, I started off with a rectangle and then added some smaller rectangles to make the main layout of the building, I coloured it in a light grey as I thought a different colour might be good for a new test piece, after that I then added in the 2 garages and added some new colours to the areas where the garages were located, I made one big and one small garage, this is becasue my flying drone would go out of the small door and the rolling drone would go out of the big door. I used the colour blue to go behind the garage doors as I felt it looked good. Following this I then added the fans into the design and placed them in the top left of the design, this is the same area as where the fans were in my first design but I liked where they were and decided to do it again. I also added the chimney in the third picture, I made one less chimney and moved it on to the other side of this design because I had an idea of how to change the design up.
Moving onto this set of picture we can see some more of the progress I have made, in the first picture we can see I have now added the doors into my design, I made a rectangle, duplicated it twice and then coloured in the two side ones to a nice light blue as this made it seem like glass which is why I used it. I then also made a small rectangle and placed it in the middle of the middle rectangle and that was just to try and make the rectangle seem more like a door and it worked in my opinion. Moving on to the second screenshot I posted I have now added the walkway at the top of the design, I put it in the same place as the walkway in the first design and thats because I felt it fitted in well there. Following on from this picture I then moved on and we can see I have now added the windows to this design, I felt like placing them up here as it could look like a room that is on the top corner of the factory, I used the same colour as the doors as I really liked the blue and then I also added some more rectangles going across the window to make it seem more like a window.
In the first picture here we can see I have now added the toxic waste pipes to the design, this time I added an extra waste pipe but I set it out so they were all combined together this time, I felt like this would work better as it could seem more logical having them all together. I used a variety of dark greens this time for the toxic waste colour as I felt like this was a good colour to use, I then also added a stroke to each of the 3 rectangles I made as I really liked the character that the stroke gave to each shape. In the second picture we can see that I have now added a security camera and lamp to my design, I placed them in the same area as I did in the first design as I liked where they were before, I could change this in my final design depending on how it looks when I get close to finishing it. I used a dark red for the secruity camera colour and a bright yellow for the lamp colour as I felt thise looked realistic. Finally going into the third picture we can see I have now added the branding into the design, I placed it here as this was the only part of the building that didn’t have a lot of detail on it and where I felt it would fit in well, I could move this around a bit and place the writing on one part of the building and the logo on another part as this would split it up a bit.,

This is the final picture of the second factory test piece I made and we can see that I have now added some sectors on to it. I decided to place these in different locations than in the first design as I didn’t want them to be in the exact same place. I placed the sector 1 above the darkest toxic pipe I created, I placed sector 2 just above the doors and sector 3 below the fans but above the big garage. I used the same colour red for the writing as I did for my branding and I did this because I feel the colour works well and stands out nicely against the grey background.
Current Position
- What did I do and why did I do it? In this week I finished off my final test pieces, this consisted of 2 billboard designs and 2 factory designs, I wanted to make 2 billboard designs as I would be making 2 for my final assets and I wanted a rough idea on how each design might look, I also created 2 factories as this way it gave me 2 designs that I could use to create 1 good piece.
- What did I find difficult or easy? I found making the factories challenging as it was a real test of my vector skills, since I hadn’t been doing vector art for a long time it was partially difficult but still fun.
- What tasks didn’t I complete from this week? I managed to complete all of my test pieces and therefore completed all of my tasks for this week.

- 2x Vending Machines Vector Final Designs – Complete
Vending Machine #1
In these 4 sets of images I will be talking you through the process of how I made the vending machine and th steps I took to make it look good. I started off with a round edged rectangle, I made it a good size and then coloured it a dark red, I then added an outer glow to the rectangle instead of a stroke as I felt like an outer glow might make the design look better which I feel it did. After this I then made a second rectangle and thiw was going to be the glass screen in which you would be able to see the products that the vending machine has, I made this rectangle and then added a stroke around it and coloured it in a light grey, this is because I knew the grey would stand out against the red and would be helped by the black outline of the stroke. Next I added some lighter grey lines, I made 5 of these and then placed them on the glass screen I previously made, I then aligned them so that the gap was even between all of them.
Next up I added the feet onto the design, I made these a dark grey and placed them at the bottom of the design, I didn’t add any stroke to the feet as I knew it wouldn’t really help the design out a lot. I made the feet by making a rectangle and making it quite thin but making it long as well, this made sure that the feet wouldn’t be ruining the desin by looking out of place. Following this I then added a blue line to the design, I got the pen tool and drew a line, before using ctrl and clicking on the thumbnail for my main vending machine tab, I then iversed the area that was selected and then deleted, this allowed the line to be perfectly on the design and not go over it, I then added an outer glow to the blue line and this was to give it a nice neon effect, I felt this worked well and the design looked a lot better after this. Moving on we can now see that I have added the control panel to the right hand side of the design, I coloured it in a light grey colour and then used a dark grey colour for the stroke, this was to make the light grey pop even more and I believe helped make it stand out even more.
In the first screenshot I have posted we can see I have now added a small glass screen which shows the order that someone has put into the vending machine, I used a bright blue colour for the glass screen and this is because I feel like it looks like glass, I then also added another blue stroke around this glass box as I feel it works well and looks good. Moving on I made the coin slot, this required a few vector shapes to be done adequately, I made a rectangle and changed it into a square and this was going to be the back of the coin slot, I then added an ellipse shape and made this a nice grey colour, this made it stand out against the dark grey of the box of the coin slot, finally I added a round edged rectangle and made it very small, this is so it would fit on the sllipse shape and not look out of place, I also made this a dark grey so it would stand out against the light grey of the ellipse. In the third picture we can now see I have added a note slot to the design, this was quite simple to make as it required two rectangles, I made one larger than the other, one was grey and one was black, I made the larger one grey as this felt like the best idea to me and the smaller one was black and this was to make it seem like an empty slot.
Following on from the last picture I have now added the change box on to the vending machine, I placed it below the note slot as I feel thise would seem like the best place for it and it is more realistic being here as that is where it is normally placed. I made rectangle and made it into a box, I made it a dark grey and then placed a black stroke around it and this was to make it stand out. Moving on to the second picture I have now made a fairly big change to the design as I have now added the push box to the bottom of the design and I have also added the word push to it. I made a round edged rectangle and coloured it in a dark grey colour, I then added a stroke to it and placed it below the glass screen where the products are, I then got a text box, placed it over the push flap and added the text push, following this I then added an outer glow to the letters as this made it stand out more and I feel it made the design look a lot better overall. In the third picture I have now added some scuff marks and scratches to the design, I did this as I wanted to make the design seem old and used and I feel that by adding these marks it worked well.

This is the final design of my product, I feel it went really well and I enjoyed making it, I have also added some rust to this design, this is because I feel it works well with the scratch marks already on the design, since I have stated the vending machine could be old, the rust would also work since the vending machines were going to be outside of the factory. I used a dark orange and used a brush with some different settings than normal to be able to create the rust on the vending machine.
Vending Machine #2
This is my second vending machine that I was creating, I started with a rectangle, made it quite large and then added a dark blue colour to it, I then added a light blue outer glow to the rectangle, I feel that the glow around the main part of the vending machine works really well and looks really good. Going in to the second picture we can see that I have now added a glass screen to the design, I made it a light grey and added a black stroke and then placed it on the left hand side of the vending machine, I feel like this is a good spot for it and it improves the design. In the third picture I have added some light grey rectangles to the glass screen which will act as shelving, I made a few of these rectangles and then spread them out and aligned them so that the gap between them was even. I didn’t add any strokes to the shelving as I feel that the design didn’t need anymore for this area of the vending machine.
In the first screenshot here we can see I have now added the feet to the vending machine, to make the feet I made a rectangle and made it relatively small because I felt like the feet didn’t need to be too big. I change the colour to a dark grey colour and then I duplicated the rectangle so I had two feet, I then placed both of them at the bottom of the design and made sure they were both split evenly apart. Movin on to the second screenshot I have added a nice pink light down the side of the design next to the glass screen, I added this by getting the brush tool and then pulling it down to create the line, I then used ctrl and clicked on the vending machine thumbnail, inversed the selection and then deleted the excess colour, I then added an outer glow to the pink but due to the dark blue colour of the vending machine the pink outer glow doesn’t really show however I feel that the design still looks good. In the third picture we can see that I have now added the control panel to the right hand side of the vending machine, I made a round edged rectangle and coloured it in a dark grey colour, I then added a stroke to it but I chose to use a light grey for the stroke colour since that way it doesn’t conflict with the control panel colour.
In this set of pictures we can some more of the progress that I have made towards the end product of my vending machine, in this picture we can see that I have now placed a small glass screen to the top right of the vending machine above the control panel, I added it here as I feel thise is a good place for it and makes the design seem more realistic, I used a light blue for this design as I felt it was a good colour to use as it looks more like a glass screen now. Moving on to the second picture we can see that I have now added a coin slot to the design, I have placed it below the control panel as I feel this is the best place for it, to make the coin slot I had to use 3 vector shapes, I used a regular rectangle to make a square for the background of the coin slot I gave this a dark grey colour as well, I then got an ellipse shape and made it small enough to fit in the square and then I gave it a light grey colour, finally I got a round edged rectangle and placed it in the middle of the ellipse, I then coloured it black as I felt this gave it more of an empty space feel so it seems more like a place where the coin would go. In the third image we can see that I have now also added the note slot to my design, I have placed the note slot below the coin slot as I feel this is a good place for it. To make the note slot I used 2 vector shapes which were both rectangles, I made one more square shaped and the other one I made quite thin, the larger I made a dark grey colour and then I made the other one black, this is because I feel like making the smaller one black works better.
In this set of pictures we see the vending machine progress right near to the end, in the first image we can see that I have now added a change box to the design, to make the change box I used one vector rectangle and made it a square, I placed it below the note slot and then changed the colour of it to a very dark grey, this is because I knew the grey would stand out against the blue of the vending machine, I also added a stroke to the change box as this would also help it look better. In the second picture we can see that I have added a few items to the vending machine which make it look better. To start with I have added the push box with the word push written on it, I also added an outer glow to the word push as I feel it looks really good, I also added some noise as it makes the glow look funkier and better. As well as the push box I also added some buttons, these can also be used to order, I wanted to add these in as I used these in one of my initial sketches and then forgot about them but thinking about it I really enjoy them and feel like they improve the overall design. In the third image we can see that I have now added some scratches to the design this is because I wanted to make the vending machine seem old, to add these scratches I got a brush and changed some of the brush settings and then got a light grey colour and started adding them where I felt they would go.

Here is the final image of my second vending machine, in this image we can see that I have added some rust to the design, since the design is old and the vending machine would be placed outside it makes sense that it could be rusty, I added rust in places where I felt it might pop up. To add the rust I changed my brush settings again and got an orange colour and then started adding it on to the design, I didn’t want to add too much as I didn’t want to go overboard with rust and therefore ruin the design.

Tasks
- 2x Drones Vector Final Designs – Complete
Drone #1
This is my first drone that I created for my final product, for this design I wanted to create a drone that looks like it can fly, but I also wanted it to be a small floating ball as this seemed like a better idea. To start off the design I started with an ellipse shape and then coloured it in a light grey, I used this colour as I felt it would look better with all of my other designs as some of them use nice vibrant colours so I felt like this would work better with the colours I was using. In the second picture we can see that I have now added some lines to my design and these are just there to make it look better since I wanted to have a nice design pattern on the drone, I used a nice blue and also gave the lines a stroke as I felt it helped make them stand out more. When I was creating the lines I also had to use the warp tool as I wanted to make the lines bend as I felt this looked better and would work better with the design ideas I had for the drone. Going into the third picture we can see that I added a security camera onto the main front of the design, although it is a camera it does also look a bit like an eye which I feel makes it look more quirky, to make the camera I had to use 2 ellipses, I made one big and made it a dark grey colour, the second one I made smaller as this way it would fit inside the bigger ellipse, I then made it a dark red and then also added an outer glow to it, I feel like the outer glow does look good as I think it seems more like a security camera because of the dark red colour and the red glow as when I think of a security camera this is what I think of.
In this next set of 3 picture we can see my drone getting some more detail and progressing closer towards the final product. In the first image we can see that I have now added some extra components to the drone, I have placed them in this area as I wanted them to be floating components however I also wanted them to be set back behind the drone as I felt it would look good and I feel it does. To make these components I used ellipse shapes as I felt these were the best choice since I needed a circular shape, I had a quick search of the custom shapes but couldn’t find one that I liked and suited my products needs. After selecting the ellipse shape I first decided on how big I wanted them, I didn’t want them to be too large as this would mess up the design so I settled for a smaller size as I knew I was going to be adding more in as the design went on. Following on from selecting the size I then ensured that they were the same colour as the main drone by selecting the drone colour andthen using the paint bucket and recolouring the components, finally I moved them into a position that I felt was a good area and this was making them line up with the lines.
In the second picture I have added a little semi circle to the right hand side of the drone in the middle, this was an important part of the drone as we’ll find out as we progress through the pictures. I made the semi circle by getting an ellipse and then moving it onto the drone, after I had it in place I then started to use the warp tool to try and change the sides of the ellipse, this wasn’t as easy as it looked as it sometimes the warp didn’t go exactly right and I would have to restart. Moving on to the third picture we can see that I have now added 2 more floating components to my drone as well as adding some more detail to the blue semi circle. I wanted to add detail on to the semi circle as I wanted it to be like an exposed circuit board with wires showing, so I got a few different colours, set my brush settings up and added some small thin lines on to make it look like wires which I felt went well. With the floating components I added two of them as I liked the sides to be matching as it looked better in my opinion, I created one ellipse shape and put it next to the wires to ensure that it was long enough to try and cover the blue if needed, after lining this up I then duplicated it and moved it onto the left hand side to make it match up well.
In this series of images we see the drone getting even closer to completion, in the first screenshot we can see that I have now added the second security camera to the drone, I placed it here as when I was sketching I was placing it here and I feel like it is a good area, the camera is also retractable so therefore I wanted to put it here. To make the camera I used a rectangle and then placed that in the centre of the design at the top, I then got the polygon tool and created a pentagon, I resized this to make sure it was the right size as this was a little bit awkward to do since it was really quick at scaling. After getting this scale right I then added the first ellipse inside the pentagon, I coloured it in the same dark grey as the first camera and then added the second ellipse in which was then coloured in red, I added an outer glow to this ellipse as well as I really liked the effect that the outer glow was giving the design. Moving on to the second image we can see that I have added another 2 floating components, I felt like adding more floating components as I really liked how they looked and felt like they were improving the design. To create these new components I used the polygon tool and made 1 pentagon, I started adjusting it to get it to right size that I wanted, I then duplicated it and moved it over to the other side of the design and ensured they were lined up.
In the third picture I have now added in the branding on my drone, the branding is a nice logo that consists of 3 rectangle vector shapes and 1 pentagon shape, I made all of these and then added in the text, I changed the text style to OCRaSTD as this looked really good and I felt it suited the design. I also used a nice bright red for the text and also the brand logo, I did this as it was the same colour I’d been using in my test pieces and I felt it would stand out well in my designs.
In these 2 pictures we can see the drone design coming to an end, in the first picture I have added a shadow below the drone, I did this as I felt it would be a smart idea to show where the light was coming from, to create the shadow I used 3 vector shapes, all of them were ellipses but I made one really big as I wanted it to be about the same length as the main drone to show that the light was coming from above, I then added 2 small ellipses one on either side as this was a shadow of the floating components. If I was to change this design at all I would add a bit of shading and highlighting to the drone as I forgot to do this and just added a shadow below the drone, to fix this I should’ve made the grey at the top of the design a bit lighter. In the second image we can see I have now added some scratches to the drone, I did this as I felt it was a good idea and made the drone look a bit more combat ready. To add the scratches I got a brush and selected a light grey, I then also adjusted the brush settings and then started to slowly and gently stroke across the drone which allowed me to create a unique and new design on the drone which I feel improved it a lot.

In this image we can see the finished drone, in this picture we can see that I have added some rust to the design, I wanted to add the rust as I felt it made the drone look a bit more weather worn and also improved the overall design. To make the rust I changed my brush settings again and then got a nice brown/orange colour and started adding to the design, I added rust to the top as I felt that this would be a place where rust might start to build up, I also added it to the security camera on top as it could be on the lid since it is retractable. I thoroughly enjoyed creating this drone despite some difficulties with created some of the shapes via warping, I still feel that the drone does look good.
Drone #2
This is the start of my second drone, throughout these next few sets of screenshots I have provided I will be talking you through the process of why I made the drone the way I did. I started off with a vector rectangle and then added a stroke around the outside of it, I made the size of the stroke quite small as it didn’t need to be big, after I had made the size of the stroke right I then used the warp tool, this was a very important step as I needed to use the warp to be able to make the body of the drone correct, if I didn’t have the warp tool I would’ve had to have made the drone more blocky which would’ve made it look bad, due to the warp tool I was able to contort the two sides of the rectangle to allow them to look good.
In the second image we can see that I have now added the legs and a waist to the drone design, I wanted to add the legs at this early stage as I wanted to get the main body of the drone created first so I could focus on the smaller details as I got further into the design. To create the legs I used a round edged rectangle and added a warp to it, I then duplicated and flipped the leg so I had it facing the other way as well, following this I then added another round edged rectangle and placed this on the bottom of the drone body, I then attached the legs, added a stroke to each of the objects and then merged the layers together, by merging the layers it made it easier for me to keep track of everything and I would only merge them if I had no other plans for the objects being merged. Going into the third picture we can see that I have now added the head and the wheels into the design, I added the head here by creating a polygon vector shape and changing the sides to 7, this ensured the head would be a weird and unique shape. After creating the head I then added a stroke to the layer as this would then help it stand out more, following this I then added the wheels onto the design, to make the wheels I used an ellipse shape, I made sure the wheels were a good size this time as in my test piece for this drone I made them way too small, after getting a size which I felt was good I then added a stroke to them and also changed their colour to a lighter grey so they could stand out a bit more.
In the first screenshot we can see that I have now added both of the security cameras to the design, I added the main on to the head of the design, I feel that by placing it here it can also make the drone look like a cyclops which is also a cool design. To make this camera I used 2 ellipses, I made one big and the other one smaller, I made the large one dark grey and the other one a dark red, I used these colours as I feel they work really well together and stand out agaisnt the grey of the drone, I also added an outer glow to the red as this also improves the design as I feel it makes the camera look more realistic. To make the smaller camera I first added a rectangle, made sure it wasn’t too big and then placed it directly on top of the head in the centre as well so it covers up the point, I then added a stroke and got to work on adding the 2 ellipses, I then followed the same technique I did for the first security camera, as I really liked this design and was going to use it again.
In the second picture we can see that I have now added the arms into the design, these were a weird shape but I feel they work well, I made them this weird shape as I wented them to fit in with the body, I created them by making a round edged rectangle and then warping it to look different, I adjusted the arms from the test piece as I felt a different design would look better and also more unique. Following this I then added the propellers as this would help the drone to hover, the propellers have had a major change since the test piece and this is because I felt they weren’t good enough so I wanted to change them, the propellers now consist of two rectangles and an ellipse shape, I feel they now look good and are definitely an improvement from the test piece. I changed the colour to a more blue grey as I wanted to use some different colours and break it up a bit from the main grey of the design.
In this series of images we see the drone progressing and getting closer to the end of the design. In the first image we can see that I have now added some colourful lines to the fron of the design, I added these as I felt the drone needed to have more colour, I added two green rectangles, a thicker blue rectangle below them and added warp to that to make it bend and then I finally added a yellow box below this, I added glows to all of these objects as I felt it gave the design a lot more character and improved it significantly, this yellow box was also going to be very important as we’ll see in the next couple of pictures. In the second picture we can see that I have now added two floating components to the design, I was going to add them to the design earlier but I forgot, I remebered to add them in at this point and I feel like they do make the design look better, to make them I used an ellipse shape and tried to make it the same length as the side of the head that they are next to as this always looks better in my opnion. Ater I had created one I then duplicated it and moved it to the other side to make it fit in more. Finally in the thrid picture we can see that I have now added the branding to my design, I placed the branding on the yellow box that I had created earlier, I made the box yellow as I knew the red branding would stand out well against the yellow, I added the logo first and positioned this closer to the right side of the box, I then added the name and placed this at the top of the box, I feel that the design got improved with the branding being added.

Finally we can see the final product of the drone, in this image we can see that I have added some scratches and rust to the drone, I did this as I felt it made the drone look better, more weather worn and also added character to the design, I used a brush setting and selected a grey for the scratches, then following that I changed the brush settings again and made the colour and light orange/brown and added the rust on. I feel that this drone was successful however I would change the design up if I was to redo this project as I feel the drone could’ve been made better.
Current Position
- What did I do and why did I do it? This week I focused on creating both of my drone designs as this was very important, I made both of the drone designs this week as I wanted to be in the mindset and I felt by creating the same asset would be the best way to do it.
- What did I find difficult or easy? I felt that the first drone was easier to create due to the shapes I was using, however I also had more fun creating the first drone so that made it more bearable, the second drone was more difficult as I had to use the warp tool a lot more and afterwards I didn’t really like how it turned out.
- What tasks didn’t I complete from this week? I managed to complete my task list and therefore completed everything for this week.

Tasks
- 2x Billboards Vector Final Designs – Complete
Billboard #1
In this set of images we can see the beginning of my billboard and I will be discussing why I made it this way and why I chose the colours that I did. In the first image we can see that I made a round edged rectangle, I made it a dark grey and that was because it would be the backboard for the billboard, I made it quite large as I was going to add a lot more detail in the centre of the rectangle, this therefore made it essentail for it to be large. In the second picture we can see that I have now added a second rectangle to the design, this rectangle was going to be the main area of the design as I was going to place the ad and branding on it. I made it a nice blue colour and then I added a nice light blue outer glow to the rectangle, I feel like this made it look better and it helps make it stand out. Finally going into the third image we can see that I have added a support railing to the top of the design, I used a round edged rectangle to create the top of the railing, I then made 5 smaller round edged rectangles as well as these would be added to the top support and also to the top of the billboard. I chose a light grey colour for the support railing as I felt it would look better if the support was brighter as I wanted it to show up clearly.
In this set of images we can see the billboard get closer to completion. In the first image we can see I have now added my vending machine to the design, when I was creating my initial sketches and doing my test pieces I was always going to add a vending machine to the design as I wanted to show off some of my other designs. Despite not changing any of the colours of vending machine I did notice that the outer glow had turned to black during this design, this could be due to where I placed it in the layering however I do like how it turned to black as I feel it looks good this way. Moving on to the second picture we can see that I have now added the brand name and logo on to the billboard, I positioned the branding to the left hand side of the billboard, this was due to the fact that the billboard was on the right hand side and I didn’t want the billboard to be too clumped together so I decided I would split it up. Since the billboard is a nice blue background and the vending machine and branding are red it’s a good contrast and the blue of the billboard definitely helps make the branding and vending machine stand out.
Finally in the third picture we can see that I have added a small bit of shading underneath the vending machine, this is to show which way the light is coming from and in this instance is it coming from above, to create the shading I used a vector rectangle and just deepend the shade of blue that I used for the billboard, if I was to do this again I would consider maybe trying to make the light come in from a diagonal direction as I feel this could make the shading look better, I could also draw the shading on instead of relying on a vector shape as I feel the vector shading works better with the round drone.

This is the finihsed billboard design that I ended up with, I am very happy with it but looking back I have noticed that I did forget to add some extra details to the back of the billboard, I was going to add some scratches to make it seem worn as this seemed like a good idea. However in this psicture we can see that I have added a bit of extra shading down the left hand side and just below the brand logo, I used my brush to add this shading as I felt this was the correct time to use it for shading and I also realised that using a vector shape to add shading down here wouldn’t have worked.
Billboard #2
Here is the second billboard I made and I will be talking through what made me make my decisions about it through these screenshots. In the first image we can see that I have made another dark grey rectangle much like my first billboard, I did this as I felt the first billboard went really well and I wanted to make sure the second one looked good as well. I made this rectangle a bit darker though as I was going to be making each colour a bit darker due to the ad I was going to put on it which was going to be quite light. In the second image we can see that I have now added another rectangle onto the billboard, this rectangle was going to be the main part of the billboard that was going to have the ad situated on it. Also after I made this rectangle and had it in place I then added an outer glow to it, I did this as I felt that the billboard should be brightened up a bit.
After adding the outer glow we then move onto the third screenshot, in this screenshot we can see that I have now added bolts to the billboard, one in each corner. I decided to try and go for a different support system this time around as I felt that the support rail was good but it also took up some spare room that I could have been using for the billboard. To make the bolts I simply made an ellipse shape and then placed it in the corner, I then got 2 rectangles and crossed them over each other to make it look like where a screwdriver would be placed to tighten or loosen the bolt. After that I combined the three object together and then duplicated it so I could have a bolt in each corner, I felt it looked good and was slightly better than the support rail.
In this next set of images we can see the billboard progress closer to completion. In the first image we can see that I have now added one of my drones to the billboard, my decision to add this drone over the other drone was because I prefer this one more as I feel it looks smoother and I just prefer it in general. Since the background of the billboard is a dark blue it helps to make the drone stand out because the drone is a nice light grey colour, I was bearing this in mind when I went for the dark blue and I believe that it does help make the drone stand out. Moving on to the second image we can see that I have now added the branding on to the design, once again I have placed it on the left hand side of the billboard, I feel that it works well on this side so that’s why I placed it here again. I also left the colour the same vibrant red as my last billboard, this is because it still stands out against the dark blue background. In the third screenshot we can now see that I have added some shading to my design, I re-added the shadow beneath the drone and then proceeded to add more shading around the bottom edges of the billboard design, to add the shading around the bottom edges I selected the blue that I used for the billboard and then selected a darker shade of it which then allowed me to add shading that looked good.

This is the finished image of my second billboard design, in this image we can see that I’ve added some extra details to it, I decided that I wanted to add some scratches to the billboard to make it seem old or as if it has been weather worn over time. I applied this effect by changing my brush settings and then selecting a light grey colour, I also made the brush quite small and selected and certain type of brush that gave me the desired effect that I wanted. I added scratches all around the outer side of the billboard, this was because I wanted to keep the inside of the design intact since I was proud of it, I put scratches over the bolts as well as I felt this would make them look better.
Current Position
- What did I do and why did I do it? This week I created both of my billboard designs, this was because I felt it would be a smart decision to make both of the same assets in the same week as it meant I could focus more clearly.
- What did I find difficult or easy? There was nothing particularly difficult about creating the billboards this week.
- What tasks didn’t I complete from this week? I managed to complete both of my billboards and therefore completed all of my tasks for this week.

Week: 9 – Date: 27/01/20
Tasks
- 1x Factory Vector Final Design – Complete
- Evaluation – Complete
Factory #1
In these first 3 images we can see the beginning of my factory design, I started out with one big rectangle and made it a medium grey colour. After creating that I then added a load more rectangles to get the rough design of the building I wanted, this would then make it a lot easier to add in all of the details that I wnated. In the second picture we can see that I have now added the doors and chimneys to the design, I added two chimneys and made one longer than the other as I felt this was a good design technique and would look good. I also added the doors here, to make the doors I made one rectangle and then duplcated it twice as I wanted to make sure they were all the same size, I added a light blue colour to two of the rectangles as I wanted them to look like glass as I felt this was also a good way to make them look like a door, I then merged these 3 layers as I knew I wouldn’t need to adjust them later on. Going into the third picture we can see that I have now added the extractor fans into the design, I placed them in the top left corner of the design as I felt this was the best place for them, I made them using ellipse shapes and also some rectangles to give them the inside design on them. I made them a light grey colour as I feel this helps make them stand out against the grey of the factory colour.
This set of images sees the factory advance a lot and get a lot more detail. In the first image we can see that I have now added a set of windows to the design, I placed the windows under the fans as I felt this was the best place for them, I didn’t like how they were being placed in my test designs and I felt the design kept on messing up in the test piece phase. I decided to give it one last good attempt and I feel this went well, I added some rectangles going each way across the main blue rectangleas I feel this gives it a more window like look. in the second image we can see that I have now added both of the drone garages to the design, I made these a light grey colour and then added a set of rectangles going across them as I felt this was a good design technique, to make the rectangles line up I used the align tool and then that made them look smarter. I added a small rectangle to the bottom of the garage and added a stroke around it as this made it stand out, I even changed the colour to a darker grey as I felt this was necessary. Following this we then go in to the third picture, In this picture we can see that I have now added a lamp and a security camera to the design, I wanted to add these to the design as I had been adding them in since my initial sketches and I felt I could further improve them by changing them in my final product. I made a rectangle as this would be the support for each itmem, I then made a second one the exact same size and then placed them where I wanted them to go, I placed one by the fans and one by the chimneys. I added an ellipse on the left hand side, made it yellow and added an outer glow to it and also a stroke, I feel that by adding both it does improve the design a lot, I then also added an ellipse on the right hand side, made it a dark red and added a stroke and an outer glow, this was it can pop a bit more and look more like a security camera.
These 3 pictures show the factory design coming to a close. In the first image we can see that I have now added the branding to the design, I have also added some text to the design as I wanted to show where each sector was, I felt like by adding the text in it does make the design look better and improves it overall, I placed the branding in the long rectangle in the centre of the design as this felt like the best place for it, I used the same bright red for the branding and also the text as I feel it works really well with the dark grey of the factory. In the second image we can see that I have now added the toxic waste pipes into the design, these were essential for me to add in as I felt like they made the design much better, I used two tones of green for this as I felt green was a good toxic colour to use and it also blended well with the grey of the factory. I also added a stroke to each of the toxic waste pipes as this would also help make them stand out. In the third image we can see that I have added some scratches to the design, I have added it to the fans, the chimneys and also around the garage doors, I felt this was a good way to improve the design as it adds a bit of extra detail and can make the factory seem old and detoriated. To add the scratches I selected a light grey colour and also changed my brush settings and then started to add them in slowly, I didn’t want to add too much as I felt that could’ve ruined the design a bit.

Here we can see the finished factroy product that I have made, in this picture we can see that I have added a couple of lines onto the design, one in sector 2 and one above the garages sector, I felt like these were a good thing to add as they add a little more detail to the design, I also took this design off of one of my test pieces as I nearly forgot to add it but I wanted to as I felt it would improve the design. If I could do this design again I would as I feel I could make it a lot better and I could don this by using the brushes a bit more as this would allow me to add some more touches to it and change the design slightly like making a few of the windows broken and adding some more smaller details.
Current Position
- What did I do and why did I do it? This week I completed my main asset, the factory. I enjoyed making this asset as it was a good challenge of my vector skills as it required a lot of different shapes and a lot of shapes going on top of each other.
- What did I find difficult or easy? Nothing was incredibly difficult but some aspects were challenging as I had to ensure everything was lined up correctly.
- What tasks didn’t I complete from this week? I managed to complete my main asset which was the factory however I didn’t manage to complete my evaluation.
Catch Up
- How do I plan to catch up? I will catch up and finish my evaluation by working hard at home and ensuring it is finsihed before the resub.
- Do I need to change anything about my work or planning? I need to ensure I’m leaving myself enough time to update my dev log and complete my evaluation as I forgot about my evaluation becasue I was trying to finish my dev log.
